Hurricane Harvey hits Texas!

Image
Watching the skies..  Yep, we had a category 4 hurricane hit the southeastern tip of Texas last night! Harvey came in around 10pm central time last night! We'd been expecting Harvey to hit on Friday. The weather channel and our local news has had coverage and talking about the weather impact all day long. We've known about it since early this week. On Monday we had a solar eclipse then by Friday we had a hurricane.. All in one week! We live north east of the tropical storms landfall, but it's expected to move up this way and give us inches and inches of rain. Right now it's still down south east of us. We've been getting bands of rain come through since daybreak. All this rain and clouds has made for cooler temperatures! #Yay! It's been hot and humid most of the summer. Although we never did hit 100 ℉ it's been over 100 ℉ with the heat index! So August leaves with a bang! Texas weather can be so unpredictable! Texas is like it's own country! It's...

The Price you pay for NOT having it all..

Image
It is said that there is a "price to pay for having it all"! What does that mean? Does it mean that once you get everything you wanted there's something (negative) waiting for you? Does it mean that getting everything you've ever wanted has consequences? What does that statement really mean? Let's take a minute to consider the other side to that coin! What's the price you pay for not having it all? What about the price you pay for letting your goals and dreams fade like you're ole favorite blue jeans? Is there a price you pay for not having it all? It's something to think about. I've given it some thought and looking back over my life, I can see where it applies!  As I get older, I'm starting to look back and see that there are many times in which I've paid a price for not chasing certain goals and dreams I once had. Yes, there were times that I should have pursued my goals, yet I gave up along the way or never even tried. This has happ...

Why I do it? Life as a first-time Blogger!

Image
When I first thought about starting a blog, I checked with a few friends and family members. I received mixed opinions about the whole things. Most of my friends and family thought it would be a waste of time. Most felt I wouldn't be able to reach anyone because of the volume of bloggers/vloggers out there right now. I wanted to help people in some way! I've had many life experiences and situations. I thought my life could be a lesson to some of what "not" to do with your life! Or maybe it would show someone that no matter what the circumstance we live on.. I also thought that those who read my blogs would maybe see a little bit of themselves through my stories. Mainly, I just wanted to reach as many people as possible and maybe through my stories I could help. Sometimes people feel alone in situations. They feel like nobody knows what they are going through.  As I was doing my research before starting my blog, I almost got discouraged! Why? The blogging market is...

When God sends You another Mother?

Image
Life can change in the blink of an eye. Then again, some things take time before change occurs! One thing I've learned is you just can't tell what life will hand you next. We never know who will come into our lives and for what reason. Things can happen so unexpectedly! Let me tell you a story that is 100% true! The events that takes place in this story is a real life experience! My story starts off searching for a place to rent. Hubby and I were looking for a rental property to lease. We were relatively new to the area we were living. We moved to this town two years prior. For some reason we had problems finding a house big enough for our family! We needed a three bedroom home to rent. Since we were new to the area, we wasn't really thinking about buying a home at the time. We thought we'd wait and get more established in the area and see if we still wanted to live there or move somewhere else! We looked all over town for a place to live. My lease at the old place ...

There's too much meanness going on!

Image
My goodness, today's world looks like nothing I've seen before! Right before my eyes I am witnessing a movement like nothing I've ever seen! The movement of meanness! Why is everybody so angry, upset, or pissed off about something or another? This seems to be running rampant in our society today. People do not hold back their thoughts or feelings about anything! What ever happen to discretion? Do you have to say everything you think? Apparently so because today's world is all about somebody make me mad, I make them mad back! If you push, I push harder! What's up with that? You can't even walk down the street or go to the store without seeing somebody upset or angry about something.  I know these are hard times we live in. People are having a hard time just trying to get by! But guess what? So did the generations before us! Struggles are part of life. And while everybody is mad and angry, just think about how much of life they are missing out on. Life is abo...

Thinking out Loud... Birthday thoughts!

Image
With my birthday less than a week away, my thoughts of birthdays past always fill my mind. I've always loved birthdays (mine especially)! Turning a year older has always been a sense of pride for me. Looking back I remember all kinds of birthdays. Some good, some bad. Lately I've gotten into the habit of reflection every year before my birthday. I wouldn't judge the past year upon reflection but I seriously look at my life and the changes that has occurred in a years time. Now that I've gotten older, every year there are usually life-changing events and unforgettable moments! Unfortunately someone always dies! Somebody has gotten very sick or some kind of shake-up in the family! Always! Looking back on birthdays I can see the changes in my life and the one's close to me lives! It's not always a pretty picture! We live in turbulent times. Just about everyone I know is having a hard time living! Most of us are just glad to see another day, not thinking much a...

Choosing the Simple Life

Image
There's nothing simple about life these days. Especially if you're middle-aged! These days are far different from our parents. Back in the day life itself was simpler. Our parents didn't have as much demand on them in there middle-age like a lot of us these days. Back then you worked, raised a family, and retired to enjoy your second half of life, doing the things you always wanted. Use to be when you retired, you had a good pension or savings. Nowadays, we basically have to work till we drop!  So how can you live simple in a world of fast-paced living? How can you slow your life down enough to enjoy the moment? It's not always easy! Most of us have massive debt and mortgages in our middle-age. Instead of getting ready for retirement, lots of us have our hands full of obligations. With grandparents raising grandchildren to children moving back home, most of us can't even save! If you ask me, the middle-age group has it the hardest right now! The hardest part i...

Mixing loose powder w/liquid foundation (with a twist)

Image
This new technique is quite popular on YouTube these days. You start by mixing your liquid foundation with a loose powder and applying it as usual. I switch it up just a little for a everyday look... This technique is supposed to keep your face matte and shine-free all day long! Check out my video to see how I applied this technique and how it lasted throughout the day! I'll be sharing my thoughts on how it lasted throughout the day.  Help me build my channel by subscribing to my YouTube channel.... A Woman and her Hair...

Image
When it comes to women and their hair it goes as far back as creation. Women has always been seen in history to have long flowing hair. Hair is a big part of womanhood. From the time I was a little girl I was told by my grandmother that a women's hair is her crown! The quest for perfect hair is ingrained in every little girl. We grow up always being self conscious of our hair and over every detail of our hair. The washing, conditioning, combing, & styling sometimes took hours. Some girls get obsessed with having perfect hair! And some girls get teased for not having perfect hair.  I grew up being one of those girls who got teased about my hair. Even though my hair was long, it was very thin. My grandmother would wash it and straighten it every week. My hair was always combed and maintained. But it was often fly-away, and coily. Unlike some of the other girls in school who had either thick wavy hair or thick straight hair. I felt worthless around those kinds of girls because...

Getting Older and Fashion..

Image
Fashion has evolved in so many ways! These days its almost anything goes when it comes to styles and outfits. When I was younger I never thought too much about age appropriate clothes. I would wear whatever suited me and sometimes I would buy a trendy piece here or there. I've always like to dress well and look my best when it comes to business, meetings and being in public. Being well polished can be the difference between getting that raise or not! Dress to impress was a well used statement back in the day. There used to be a real clear line between young adults clothes and older ladies clothes. But that has all changed now. People wear what they want at any age! The fashion industry mostly caters to the young. But what do you do when you're not young anymore?  So many middle-aged women are wanting to keep their youth through dressing young, hip, and trendy. But does it always look appropriate? Knowing when to change your style of clothing is important when you start to ...

Modern Inconveniences?

Image
Taking a look at the internet and the way I use it.. In these days and times we live in, we have so much technology its almost overload! I'm not talking about technology in the workplace. Today, I'm talking about technology in our day to day personal lives! With the internet, cell phones, computers, and tablets, we can access information from virtually anywhere. We can do things that just weren't possible when I was a kid! All the information and apps, its a never ending stream of information 24 hours a day. Most of us (me included) has gotten used to having our phones on us at all times. We've gotten used to having 24 hour access to the internet. I mean really, we use technology in almost every area of our lives now. You can now even access any kind of television or cable program at any time! Internet streaming has allowed for all access movies and sitcom shows at any time. We now depend on our computers and phones for research and study that could have taken hours...
