Hurricane Harvey hits Texas!

Watching the skies..

Yep, we had a category 4 hurricane hit the southeastern tip of Texas last night! Harvey came in around 10pm central time last night! We'd been expecting Harvey to hit on Friday. The weather channel and our local news has had coverage and talking about the weather impact all day long. We've known about it since early this week. On Monday we had a solar eclipse then by Friday we had a hurricane.. All in one week! We live north east of the tropical storms landfall, but it's expected to move up this way and give us inches and inches of rain. Right now it's still down south east of us. We've been getting bands of rain come through since daybreak. All this rain and clouds has made for cooler temperatures! #Yay! It's been hot and humid most of the summer. Although we never did hit 100 ℉ it's been over 100 ℉ with the heat index! So August leaves with a bang! Texas weather can be so unpredictable! Texas is like it's own country! It's a big state.

Sometimes the weather in one part of texas doesn't effect the whole state! We have dry like the desert in west texas and wet always raining in east texas! The weather can vary wildly between one part to another. I grew up in Louisiana so I know a thing or two about hurricanes and tropical storms. Anywhere along the gulf states there's always the potiental threats of hurricanes, storms, and tornadoes! It comes with the territory. When I moved to texas after graduating college, I knew I wasn't moving far enough to be completely out of danger from the weather. In my neck of the woods we are looking at locally flash flooding with the possibility of tornadoes and high winds as the storm makes its way north east. The south east took the biggest of the hurricane! Down there the hurricane has caused lots of damages and so far one death! I pray for all in the way of the storm! It's unfortunate that some chose to stay in harms way! This tropical storm is expected to linger around down south for days! Instead of inches, they are expecting feet of rain! Tropical storm Harvey will be a slow moving storm. In there lies the problem! Slow moving hard rain can cause massive flooding! Then when the storm does decide to move in a couple of days, it's expected to come dump more rain here in northern east Texas! I live in the country surrounded by plenty of big hardwoods and pine trees. I'm a little concerned about the upcoming rain and possible tornadoes! Whenever the skies look threatening, I always look up at the trees!

They say this storm is expected to last well into next week, possibly as far as next weekend! We'll have to wait and see what happens. But for now I'll be watching the skies and the weather channel to keep up with the ongoing activity of tropical storm Harvey! And I will be praying that there will be no more loss of lives in the process. Hurricane season can bring a lot of anxiety to us living in it's path! Texas and the other gulf states are beautiful places to live. So we all except the weather as part of life! Keep us all in you're prayers! The storm is far from being over! I'm very thankful that as of right now, there's been no flooding or heavy rain. We are under a tornado watch for now! We've been getting off and on rain since this morning! But as I said it's not over yet! We are expecting rain through next weekend! Looking on the bright side, all this rain makes everything green and pretty! Even though we don't like too much rain, rain is life! We all need it to survive. So instead of looking at the negative, I choose to look at the positive! I can be thankful for not being directly in the path of the hurricane during landfall! God will take care of us! Rain is good for every living thing!
