My first wash-n-go on natural 4c hair...

Image
Follow along with me as I try my first wash-n-go. Having short natural 4c hair has it's challenges. One of the biggest challenge is styling you're hair. While there are many styles currently available to try, not all styles can be achieved on 4c hair type. After doing some research looks like wash-n-gos are easy! I wanted to find out for myself! They say the finger raking method is the easiest way to achieve a quick wash-n-go. So I thought I'll give it a try. I'm always looking for easy styles that last at least a week. And as I'm getting older I don't have time or strength for long drawn-out hairstyles. It's gotta be quick and easy for me! I want to look good without having to spend hours on my hair. Join me as I try my first wash-n-go using the raking method and see my results! Don't forget to like/subscribe/share my video.. Http://youtu.be/a4sJv9Jm0QE

To Watch TV or Not..?

Image
One of the reasons I moved to the country was to enjoy more time outdoors. See the scenery and enjoy gardening and such. But there are times when I can't get outside. Sometimes I might be feeling bad or the weather is not right for going outdoors. In cases like that I try to turn to television. I used to watch TV regularly. But in the last oh I'll say, 10 - 15 years, TV isn't that appealing to me. I remember a time when television would have me fully engaged. And now with all the drama sitcoms and reality shows, what about us who don't like any of those things?      I don't know about you but television isn't what it use to be. I'll be honest, I liked the time when you couldn't say certain stuff on TV. There was even a time when they didn't show grown-up shows until after 9pm. What happened to that? Now its anything goes at any time. If they aren't trying to get you to buy something with millions of ads, they try to entice you with gritt...

A lot to do about Nothing... Going to town?

Image
When you live in the city or the suburbs, you don't think too much of running errands or going to the grocery store. Modern conveniences are just a few blocks away usually.  But country living is just a little different. Nothing out here but wide open spaces! It almost takes a plan to go to town. You don't want to forget anything or miss picking something up. Going to town when you live at least 17 miles from the nearest town has been challenging to say the least. Since moving back to the country it is the one thing that has given me the most problems. You see at first I would go once a week (supposedly) to pick up all we need for the household for that week. Problem was, I would forget things and end up going back to town for something I forgot. Sometimes I would even end up going back to town twice in one day because I forgot something important. It started to be very bothersome to have to go back to town after just getting home. Instead of once a week trips I ended up go...

Right out of my garden! Planting a small garden can bring you not only good health but it can also lift you're spirit as well. The joys of watching something you planted grow and produce is an amazing feeling. I have always found a way to have a small garden even in my college dorm days. I've always felt that "home grown" vegetables taste better! Tomatoes, bell peppers, & herbs are some of the easiest to grow anywhere! You can even plant vegetables in planter pots! There's something therapeutic about gardening. I am at peace in my garden. A garden will give you lots of reward with little effort! Look at my results so far..

Country cat... One thing everyone always says about moving to the country. "Get some Cats". So once we're settled for a couple of months we got us a cat. She was actually a kitten when we got her. My husband's cousin found a stray kitten in her front yard. The kitten kept coming around so his cousin caught the kitten for us. She was a stray. It had been several years since I'd had a cat. I had mixed feelings because it was yet another something to look after. I already have two dogs. Nevertheless, I wanted her. She was beautiful and was very attached to me right from the beginning. One of the first things I did was take her to the veterinarian to get spaded and shots. After that we let her go outside. By the time she went outside she was bigger and fixed. I named her Puss because the name just seemed to fit. I had forgotten how much joy and calm cats bring to you're life. When we first got her I was thinking about all the rodients she'd keep away from th...

Daily Inspiration: Keep Going! This is dedicated to those in my age group (late 40's) who feel they are on their journey alone. For those in the middle of a commitment that they don't think they can handle. For those who have too much on their plate right now and yet have been faced with more to take on. Someone who is maybe thinking about giving up. Don't! Every now and then we get to a point of wanting to give up. The one's who push through know that things aren't usually what they seem to be. The problem, task, responsibility, isn't as big as it appears. When you feel you've hit a wall and can't go any further, take a deep breath and pause and think things through. We live in a fast paced society, but your life doesn't have to be fast. At this point in our lives we need to start slowing down... Its alright to let things take their natural course. We are old enough to know we don't control everything and somethings are out of our control. We ...

I'm back with another helpful tutorial! In this tutorial I share the technique I learned called "finger shingling". I have been wearing my hair in this style since I learned the process. It is a easy style that can be worn shingled or as a twist out. As I've gotten older I don't have the time or the arm strength to spend hours and hours doing my hair. This look only takes about an hour and last for a week! I've found it sometimes hard to find styles to wear my hair in because it is so short. I needed a look that was low maintenance, protective styling, and would last at least a week. Not to mention look somewhat "neat" and "put together". The choices are limited because of shortness. While I'm in this in-between hair growth phases, shingling has given me a great option over just wash - n - go's. At this point my hair is still too short for two strand twist and corn rolls. Follow along with me as I show you how I shingle my hai...

Oh, what to write? In an effort to keep this blog page going, I have to remember to write. Sounds simple doesn't it? But believe you me, when it comes to writing (at least with me), it can take a "leave of absence" on you. I write everyday in a couple of journals. I've been use to doing that for several years now. I started a journal to get me prepared for one day starting a blog page. Years later I am still writing everyday in my journal. Now the problem is to remember to write on my blog. Out of all the thoughts and stories I think of daily, I seem to go blank sometimes when it comes to writing. But I guess that's human nature. Good news is, I'm going to keep trying. I'm going to keep moving forward and try to keep my blog going. Everyone experiences things everyday, but it takes a special type to be able to express it through writing. I won't lie, I'm a amateur! I haven't written for any major magazine's or newspapers. I haven't wr...

Beauty in the Country? Let me ask you a question? If you had a choice on whether to wear makeup everyday or not, which would you choose? If you were alone with no one watching, would you put on makeup anyways? On a daily basis this is my issue. I was once someone who lived in a makeup everyday world. City living and business requires a women in most cases to wear makeup at least during business hours. I was one of those women! Yes! Monday through Friday, every morning routine...makeup! On the weekends for a dinner out or a movie, you guessed it...makeup! Sunday morning church, yep, makeup again! I have always loved makeup that's not the problem. Waking up putting on makeup is just as natural as brushing my teeth! But what if things changed? What if now you don't have to wear makeup everyday? Moving to the country has me facing this issue. To wear or not to wear makeup everyday. At this point we are just now getting settled in. Hubby has a 9 to 5 job. And I am working on res...

Trying to find balance in routine... Now things are very different! Sometimes life can pass by without you paying too much attention to it, and other times things happen at a certain time we never forget. When it comes to our lives and the personal things that go on behind the scene, things can change without much notice. Having a routine for so many years and then not having anything to do at all is a change we usually remember. But what about that summer get-a-way in '08? The kind of change I'm talking about today is the subtle change in routine. I've been situated in the country for a few months now, but I still don't have a regular routine worked out. Being in a different place, in a different town, living a different life. Routine takes times. And the older I get the more I have grown to not liking change so much. Of course there's no way to stop change! But who knew things would be so different? The usual things I do everyday has taken on a new shape. Gett...

Changing Views: Letting go... Changing my life completely!

Image
Moving to the country is something some city dwellers wish for in the morning rush hour commute. Other city dwellers plan on making the country life part of their retirement years. But for most its just a passing thought or an outdated dream. Especially the city dwellers who have lived in the city for many years. You grow accustom to some city luxuries and conveniences. And then there are those like myself. Those who want to move to the country and live as soon as possible. Here's my story. I'll start by saying I am a country girl at heart. I was raised mostly in the country pines of Louisiana. After leaving my small town as a teenager, I thought I'd had enough of the country. I was ready to begin college and live in the city! Fast life, convenient stores, & 24 hour shopping appealed to me as a young adult. But there was always something missing! Something too fast about the city living. I missed the friendliness and community of country living. Once out of college an...
